Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney scored as United defeated AS Roma 2-0 while Bojan Krkic scored for Barcelona in a 1-0 win over Schalke. “We can’t take anything for granted, but we definitely feel like we can reach the semifinals,” United manager Alex Ferguson said. Substitute Mirko Vucinic headed in the game winner in injury time to give Roma the 4-2 aggregate win. “Vucinic’s entrance changed the game,” Roma coach Luciano Spaletti said. “All of the subs who came in maintained the team’s equilibrium and made important contributions. We controlled well and had better intentions about taking this game. And we responded to the challenge.”

United nearly tied it but Hart made a key save on Carlos Tevez and got a break when Cristiano Ronaldo’s free kick went over the bar.

In the second half Petrov’s cross was taken by Benjani and he scored just inside the far post. United thought they had gotten back in the game but Tevez was ruled offside.
