Everton will try and clinch a spot in the Soccer Betting UEFA Cup on Sunday as they travel to face Arsenal. With just two games remaining the Toffees have 62 points, three clear of sixth place Aston Villa. Manager David Moyes is confident his club can get the necessary points in one of their final two matches even after blowing the lead against Aston Villa last week and settling for a 2-2 draw. “The boys played well and it was a decent game,” Moyes said, “Apart from conceding the goals, I don’t think we can really complain about their effort. I saw signs on Sunday that we were coming back to form and we are looking forward to the last two games.”

Arsenal is on the outside of the Premier League title race, trailing Manchester United by four points with only two games left. They will probably be eliminated before Sunday’s game begins since Manchester United is expected to easily handle West Ham on Saturday. Arsenal may not have much motivation on Sunday but Everton is not playing well of late having won only one of their last eight Premier League matches.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said his team’s title hopes are now gone. “Yes we are out,” he said, “We played with quality and spirit, and I’m very proud of our performance. What can you do? We had plenty of chances and we were really unlucky not to win.” Arsenal actually led 1-0 on a goal by Emmanuel Adebayor. It was a mistake by United’s defense that led to the goal. Rio Ferdinand said, “I heard a shout of ‘keeper’, but Edwin said he didn’t say it, so I’ve left it and it’s gone in. It was on my head really.” United tied the game on Ronaldo’s 38th goal of the season in the 54th minute. William Gallas was given a penalty for handling a shot by Carrick and Ronaldo scored into the top corner to tie the game. Owen Hargreaves scored in the 72nd minute on a great free kick to give United the win. That kick was a surprise to Arsenal as they thought Ronaldo would take the kick but Hargreaves said he was the first choice. “That’s a good distance for me so I didn’t ask him,” he said.

Two of the semifinal spots in the Soccer Betting Champions League look to be going to Manchester United and FC Barcelona as both teams won on the road in the first legs last week and now are at home. Chelsea lost 2-1 on the road at Fenerbahce in the first leg but they are heavily favored to win at home and advance. The game between Liverpool and Arsenal is a definite toss-up. The teams played to a 1-1 draw in their first leg and they also played to a 1-1 draw in league action on Saturday. This will be their third meeting within a week’s time. Arsenal has played a lot of draws lately. They have seven draws and two losses in their last 11 games. They have now fallen out of the title chase in the Premier League as they are now six points back of United and three back of Chelsea. “We will play our own game on Tuesday night and try to win, give absolutely everything,” Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said. “Now we need to recover physically and mentally because the players gave everything against Liverpool on Saturday. However, we have enough resources to qualify on Tuesday night.” Arsenal and Liverpool both rested a lot of starters in Saturday’s league match, instead putting the focus on Tuesday’s huge Champions League match.

Soccer Betting Preview - Ferdinand Injury Not Serious
Manchester United breathed a huge sigh of relief as a scan on defender Rio Ferdinand revealed that his left foot is not broken. Ferdinand left Middlesbrough on Sunday with his foot in a protective boot but the club said he did not suffer a break. With huge games upcoming for United in the next few weeks they will need a healthy Ferdinand.

Manchester United plays AS Roma on Wednesday in the Soccer Betting Champions League quarterfinals but they already have a 2-0 lead and are in good shape to advance. They will definitely want Ferdinand back this month though as they have key Premier League matches against Arsenal and Chelsea. United was able to get excellent play out of 21-year-old Pique as a replacement for Ferdinand against Middlesbrough but they can’t always assume that will be the case. “Pique came on and did brilliantly. He was marvelous.” Manager Alex Ferguson said, “The lad’s a terrific player and I think that actually helped us. We’ve got great confidence in the lad and he’s come through very well.” United is already missing defender Nemanja Vidic, who has been out for three weeks with a knee injury. Goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar said that missing Vidic has hurt recently. “Of course we miss him, he is a very important player for us.

Ronaldo scored a brilliant goal to give United the lead against Roma in the 39th minute as he jumped over Marco Cassetti and headed in a cross from Paul Scholes. Roma put on some pressure in the second half but couldn’t get the equalizer and Rooney scored in the 66th minute to put the game away. “Ronaldo’s goal changed the game for us,” Ferguson said. “I thought Roma had some good chances the first 15 minutes of the second half. But there are breaks in a football match and I think they were with us today.” Roma was missing injured captain Francesco Totti and his absence hurt their offense.

Liverpool could not match United in the second half playing with only 10 men. Goalkeeper Pepe Reina played well stopping Ronaldo, Rooney and Tevez but United kept the pressure on and after Reina stopped Ronaldo again it resulted in a corner in the 79th minute that Ronaldo headed home. Two minutes later Nani added the third goal.
Chelsea did their part to stay within striking distance of Manchester United getting a huge 2-1 home win against Arsenal. Didier Drogba scored twice in the second half as Chelsea came from behind to win 2-1. Bacary Sagna had given Arsenal the 1-0 lead and the Gunners were looking to end Chelsea’s long winning streak but Drogba took over and saved the Blues.

Inter Milan faces the tough task of coming back from two goals down when they host Liverpool in the second leg of a Soccer Betting Champions League quarterfinal on Tuesday.

Premier League teams are doing quite well in the Soccer Betting Champions League as Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea have all moved into the quarterfinals. There could be a fourth Premier League team that makes the final eight as Liverpool holds a nice lead against Inter Milan heading into their second leg game next week. “What will be, will be,” Chelsea’s Frank Lampard said. “If all four of us go through - and Liverpool are in a good position - there will be a great chance of an all-English match. It’s obviously great for England if we’re all in there but if we draw one we will have to deal with it.”
Wednesday’s Champions League games saw Chelsea defeating Olympiakos 3-0 while AS Roma eliminated Real Madrid 2-1 and Schalke beat FC Porto 4-1 on penalties after the teams went into extra time with the aggregate score tied at 1-1. The loss by Real Madrid was a surprise as the Spanish champs were knocked out for the fourth straight season. Madrid had lost the first leg game 2-1 and needed a victory but couldn’t get it as Roma won 2-1 again. Substitute Mirko Vucinic headed in the game winner in injury time to give Roma the 4-2 aggregate win. “Vucinic’s entrance changed the game,” Roma coach Luciano Spaletti said. “All of the subs who came in maintained the team’s equilibrium and made important contributions. We controlled well and had better intentions about taking this game. And we responded to the challenge.”

Ballack opened the scoring in the 6th minute and then assisted on Lampard’s goal in the 25th minute. Kalou added the third goal in the 48th minute.

Arsenal has extended their lead in the soccer betting Premier League to five points after a 2-0 win over Blackburn on Monday. Philippe Senderos scored early and Emmanuel Adebayor scored late for the Gunners. It would have been more of a rout if not for Blackburn goalkeeper Brad Friedel.
The win by Arsenal was a big one considering Manchester United was upset by Manchester City 2-1 on Sunday. Arsenal has 12 games left as they try and hold off the powerful United club. The loss by United to their rivals was a shock as Manchester City swept United for the first time since 1970. The 2-1 win was their first win at Old Trafford since 1974. The loss ended United’s 13 match winning streak. Darius Vassell and Benjani Mwaruwari scored first-half goals for City and United’s only goal in injury-time came from Michael Carrick.
United played without suspended players Wayne Rooney and Patrice Evra, and Owen Hargreaves was on the bench. In the 25th minute City took the lead as Ireland, Petrov and Vassell combined for the first tally. United nearly tied it but Hart made a key save on Carlos Tevez and got a break when Cristiano Ronaldo’s free kick went over the bar.
In the second half Petrov’s cross was taken by Benjani and he scored just inside the far post. United thought they had gotten back in the game but Tevez was ruled offside. Carrick scored in injury time for United but it was too late to do any good. “It was probably the result that City deserved really,” Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs said, “They played better than us. City scored at important times in the game and we didn’t recover.
