Argentina’s junior team hoisted the trophy at the FIFA Under-20 World Cup vs Czech

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

FIFA U-20 World Cup, is the world championship of football for male players under the age of 20 and is organized by Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). The Championship has been awarded every two years since the first tournament in 1977.

Just a week after its painful loss in the Copa America, South American powerhouse, Argentina was able to scrape together some self-respect after winning the under-20 World Cup on Sunday. The collective sigh of a nation could be heard but the Argentinean faithful erupted in wild applause and celebration as their junior team hoisted the trophy in Canada. It was the second straight Junior World Cup victory for Argentina and the terrific display will help ensure that this seemingly endless pipeline of talent will help the senior team remain competitive for a while longer. With the ghosts of players like Messi, Tevez, and Riquelme still lingering in the memory of soccer fans’ hoping for a repeat from four years, the fans got exactly what they wanted as the Argentine team dominated the Czech Republic with a 2-1 victory [...]

LA Galaxy lost to Chelsea, MLS wins with Beckham’s pop

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

In a game where the score, and perhaps the game itself were quite secondary, the visiting Chelsea Blues defeated the LA Galaxy in their own backyard in an exhibition match 0-1. But the score mattered little as 99% of the people attending the game and those watching at home had little actual interest in the game. Instead, they were there to get a glimpse of the world’s most famous athlete in his debut for the MLS squad. And typical of most events in LA, it was over hyped, didn’t live up the billing and was all about making the scene. In the end, David Beckham played only a few minutes and looked awful. He was obviously not 100% and skipped around his injured ankle very gingerly throughout the match and looked as though he might have aggravated the injury on a very rough tackle late in the game [...]

Thursday, July 19th, 2007

Chelsea FC, the same team that became the 2007 FA Cup champions, and the same team that ruled the English Premiership for two years before Manchester United won this year’s Premiership title, agreed to let David Beckham shine when they face Beckham and his boys in Los Angeles.

Chelsea is one of the most glamorous teams in all of international football. This team is synonymous to Tiger Woods in golf and the Wimbledon championships in tennis [...]

Copa America: Brazil dominates Argentina in Final Match

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

In what was billed as match-up between two continental powerhouses, it was almost as if one of the teams forgot to show up. Or perhaps someone forgot to tell Brazil that they were a severe underdog. The facts were simple: Mexico had beaten Brazil in the group stages and Argentina had just routed Mexico. Argentina was definitely the stronger side and after scoring heaps of goals in its previous matches and averaging over three goals a game many feared the game would be over before it even began. And they were right, only they didn’t anticipate that it would be Brazil doing the finishing, not Argentina [...]
