Spain out to dismantle Tunisia in FIFA World Cup
In Monday’s Group H encounter against Tunisia in Stuttgart, Spain will be out to prove that their highly impressive four-goal demolition of Ukraine was no flash in the pan. Depending on the result in the group’s other game later in the day, victory could guarantee the Iberians a place in the next round of the 2006 FIFA World Cup Germany. The North Africans, meanwhile, will be anxious to raise their game after a slightly disappointing draw against Saudi Arabia.
The Spain strike force is in red-hot form. Torres put on a rampaging display against Ukraine and emphatically rounded off a wonderful three-man move for his side’s fourth goal.
The 22-year-old also won a penalty and drove the Ukrainian back-line to distraction with his mobility and immense work rate, while his partner in crime, Villa , the revelation of last season’s Spanish league, snapped up two goals on his FIFA World Cup debut. With their appetite for goals growing by the day, the Tunisian rearguard will need to be on their toes to keep this talented, goal-hungry duo at bay.
In the absence of their number one striker, Santos, who is still struggling with the calf injury he picked up in his side’s last friendly before the tournament, Tunisia will be looking to the pace and dribbling skills of Zied Jaziri to unsettle Spain’s well-drilled defence.
A national hero after his decisive goals at the CAF African Cup of Nations in 2004, Jaziri continues to give opposing defenders headaches with his changes of pace and lethal finishing.
This is the first ever meeting between the two countries.
